When our customers and clients began to ask for more origins, we decided it was time to broaden our selection. Sumatra Kerinci is cultivated in Indonesia, but on a separate island from Bali Blue. Since our farmers in Bali demonstrated such a high level of passion and commitment, it simply made sense to begin sourcing from Sumatra as well.
Considering that the island is covered with volcanoes, Kerinci is situated in rich volcanic soil. This volcanic loam soil is the reason that Sumatra Kerinci is such a prize. With the most historically active volcanoes, Sumatra is referred to as "The Ring of Fire."
This coffee is honey processed, leaving a sweeter result. The coffee cherry's pulp (skin) and fruit are removed during the process, leaving behind a thin layer of sticky mucilage. This mucilage would be fully removed before drying in a washed-process coffee, but in honey processing, some of it is left on.
